Ra's al Ghul [a] is a supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, commonly as an adversary of the superhero Batman.Created by editor Julius Schwartz, writer Dennis O'Neil and artist Neal Adams, the character first appeared in Batman #232's "Daughter of the Demon" (June 1971).
Upon historical research, O'Neil learned that the name Ra's Al Ghul (pronounced Raysh-Al-Ghoul) was the original name of a killer in the Middle East whose head was said could turn into a lion/tiger. This led to people calling him 'ghouls head', the literal translation of "Ra's Al Ghul", or head of the demon.
