The easiest way to start citing on Wikipedia is to see a basic example. The example here will show you how to cite a newspaper article using the {} template (see Citation quick reference for other types of citations). Copy and paste the following immediately after what you want to reference:
Template harvtxt creates a short author–date citation with a one-directional link to the first matching citation template on the same page. {{}} is designed to be used to create shortened footnotes, a citation style which pairs a short, author-date citation in a footnote with a complete citation in the references section at the end of the article (see example below).
The "Harvard citations" template is for producing more complicated Harvard citations, when one wishes to link several publications by the same author, or add a link to the author's name. For most simple Harvard citations the templates {{ harv }} , {{ harvtxt }} , and {{ harvnb }} are easier to use.
This template is similar to Template:harvtxt, with the exception that it is intended to be used on an article talk page and links to references located on the associated article page rather than the talk page itself. It makes it easier to discuss article references on the associated talk pages.

If the correct parameters are used, this template produces output identical to that of the {} template, with one important exception: By default, this Citation template uses periods (full stops) in places where the Citation template use commas by default; either type of template can use periods (full stops) or commas by using an optional parameter.
