Open the message in a new Window then use F4 - or the Search icon on the Home tab. The dialog is for search and replace - but in received messages you can only search - if you want to replace in a received message you need to open the message for editing. Edit Message is on the move chunk - under the More Actions menu button.
I have a new problem. When I compose new messages in Outlook 2016 desktop version for Windows 10 (licensed with my M365 account), for some reason, the text display size is really small. Maybe 6 point or so. This is at 100% zoom. If I increase the zoom to about 300%, then it looks like a normal again email text again.

If I run the Office in safe mode, the message windows function as expected. I've run both the Quick Repair and Online Repair, uninstalled/ re-installed Outlook, and downloaded and ran the SaRa tool that fixes problems with office. Created a new OST file with no change in the behavior. I've disabled all add on and created a new outlook profile.

Trying to create a new email produces the same result. It turns out, in Windows 8, you can drag a message so far down to the bottom of the screen it is essentially behind the task bar. So your message is actually open, or if you create a new email it is also open, but it is so far down it is basically off the desktop.
