February 2018. About 3 weeks ago (today is 2/20/2018), my 2017 Highlander (around 13K miles) started having a high pitched noise when going over 40 mph. The whine would go up and down when the transmission switched gears. The noise would come and go and be more noticeable at times.
June 2007. I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander & the Transmission shifting pattern is so erratic and unpredictable that it causes me to continually tromping on the gas pedal and become an agressive driver. Too many times, I have stepped on the gas & the car just goes into a time lag before it finally shifts.
July 2009. I was on highway and suddenly my 06 highlander hybride stalled and i saw the msg as "Hybride failed"and "VCF failed, I towed my car to dealer and staying in Motel, and I need help, why this happen and how should I deal with Toyota, Help me.. , I am stuck on the road 400 miles away from home. According to the rep, Toyota is not addressing this problem 1) Because this Highlander model will be changed soon,2)Lack of complaints, 3)these vehicles are made to run this way and 4)the computer controls have to learn the driver's driving habits. What nonsense from a major manufacturer.
Hi. I have the exact same problem - we have a 2003 highlander and about 3-4 weeks after we had it, I noticed "dimples" on either side of the strip just above the handle to open the liftgate (just over the license plate). Ours isn't chrome though. We live in the mid-Atlantic region and got our highlander from Alexandria Toyota.

The dealer said that there is no remaining warranty and wanted $550 to diagnose the HV battery. It appears that hybrid system is covered under a 8/100 but the battery is 10/150, maybe. It is a CA car. I spoke to Toyota directly and was told the battery was 10/150 and they were going to FAX me the documentation.
They should know that similar problems did occur and exist in Prius and Highlander hybrid vehicles during the past few years and are all shown on this website. 1. Apply brake at low speeds-Car slows down. 2. Slippage occurs-Car coasts and speeds up. 3. Brakes re-engage, car slows down and stops. Sometimes an abrupt stop to make up for increased stopping distance. I have noticed this on totally dry smooth roads. Bumpy roads.
