West Branch State Park is a public recreation area located east of Ravenna, Ohio, on the west branch of the Mahoning River.The park encompasses more than 5,000 acres (2,000 ha) of land and 2,650 acres (1,070 ha) of water mainly in Charlestown, Edinburg, and Paris townships, with additional land in neighboring Palmyra, Ravenna, and Rootstown townships.
The 13.7-acre (55,000 m 2) Pa-nu Cultural Preserve contains the most significant archeological site within Hearst San Simeon State Park.The site has been dated to 5850 years before the present, and it contains significant evidence documenting prehistoric technology, subsistence practices and social organization over the course of several centuries.
Views on clear days extend to the Big Sur coastline to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Salinas Valley to the east. Recreation includes backpacking, horse camping, and day trips. As with all wilderness areas, motorized and mechanized vehicles (including mountain bikes) are prohibited everywhere except the forest service roads.
It is located in the Wolkberg (English: Cloud mountain), a subrange of the Drakensberg approximately 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) south-east of Haenertsburg and 60 kilometres (37 mi) east of Polokwane. The 2,127 metres (6,978 ft) high Ysterkroon and the surrounding 22,000 hectares (54,000 acres) was proclaimed a Wilderness Area in 1977. [1] [2]
