From Wikipedia: Career Mankiewicz began his career as a reporter and an anchor for WCSC-TV (a CBS affiliate) in Charleston, South Carolina. He joined WAMI in Miami, Florida, in 1998, where he served as anchor of The Times, a daily news magazine show and the station's highlight program.

  3. TCM UNDERGROUND LEAVES THE ROSTER - the Data Lounge

Ben Mankiewicz announced in his outro for The Wild Bunch last night that TCM Underground would be leaving the TCM lineup after its presentation of Plan 9 From Outer Space (and some drug shorts). He said it had started in 2007 - I think that's what he said - with a showing of Plan 9 and would go out the way it came in (like Helen Lawson).

  4. Do you find any of TCM's hosts all that likable or knowledgable?

August 29, 2021 9:55 AM. “ Jacqueline Stewart is nice but so, so awkward. She never knows what to do with her hands and her discomfort reads through the screen. (Even worse, she'll often bring her thumbs and forefinger together and place them over her crotch. It looks like she's highlighting her snack pie.)”. Snack pie.

  5. Troy Donahue was supposed to play Bud in "Splendor in the Grass". According to Ben Mankiewicz on TCM just now. I think he would have been great. Such a handsome man, who led an interesting life. I had no idea he was such a hard core addict:

Ben Mankiewicz, whose ancestral lineage provided a direct link to film's early years, lent an air of legitimacy to his role as Osborne's successor, though he lacks his mentor's charm. Contrasting Robert Osborne as the sole captain of the ship, TCM now has a regular roster of younger hosts who introduce the films.

  7. TCM is being decimated - the Data Lounge

R5 That’s an interesting idea. I would watch that. Robert Osbourne was such a gentle presence. I really miss him. Yet I will admit that Ben Mankiewicz has done well. I like him very much, even with his goofy jokes. I also really enjoy Alicia Malone, that beautiful face and sunny but always polished commentary. She is very telegenic.

  8. Brokeback Mountain on Turner Classic Movies - the Data Lounge

BBM must take responsibility for the now de rigueur "Brokeback Kiss" This is the method "straight identifying" actors must use whenever the script requires them to mack: 1. At a full run tackle your partner. 2 Both partners simultaneously seize each others heads . 3.Using both hands grab your partner by the ears.

  9. Have any of you hags taken the TCM cruise? - the Data Lounge

October 17, 2024 8:21 PM. Bob Mackie told me a story of when he went on one. Dave Karger from TCM was doing a Q & A with him and a fan in the audience brought up a dead pet squirrel that they had had stuffed. Wearing a miniature version of the Carol Burnett “Went With the Wind” dress. And asked Bob to sign it.

  10. TCM REFRESHED? OH NO! - the Data Lounge

    www.datalounge.com/thread/29217418-tcm-refreshed-oh-no!

Ben Mankiewicz’s new set will debut on TCM in primetime tonight, with subsequent sets revealed in the coming weeks. Culture morphs, tastes change and new stars are born, but TCM has remained a constant in Hollywood for almost three decades, currently ranking as a Top 30 cable network and has recently expanded beyond linear with a branded ...

  11. Here's a list of every film ever shown on TCM! - the Data Lounge

May 16, 2021 6:50 AM. Unfortunately Connie Francis movies are severely underplayed. The only one with a decent amount of screenings is WTBA while the rest are criminally neglected by TCM (Miss Francis provided only her singing voice in the last two): When the Boys Meet the Girls (1965) 11x. Follow the Boys (1963) 19x.
