I have both the original and newer version. Amazingly simple and well thought out. It uses paracord to attach to the rifle. The rear of the sling paracord could also be installed parallel to the buttpad which is another option as you wish. Here's an instruction vid on YouTube on how to tie a paracord sling mount.

Lay the sling out so that each end coincides with the sling loops on the rifle. The center piece of the metal buckles should be facing up. Take the ends of the sling and run them through the sling loops from the outside to the inside. The run them under the center piece of the metal buckle so that they are between the sling and the center piece.

They are nice to have. FWIW, there are a few top rails with the QD socket built in (as opposed to the pinned sling swivel from Steyr), Pete has 3 different styles and other companies have their own. The Manticore scope mount has quite a few QD points. Anyhow, the QD sling pins are really nice to have on the AUG.
