However, many people moved over to IM clients such as ICQ and AOL Instant Messenger when those busted onto the scene. Since then, there has been a shift over to social networking sites (esp Facebook). I haven't used IRC/mIRC in years, but I assume the people that are still on there are old-timers who were around during IRC's glory days.
