The USC Thornton School of Music is a private music school in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1884 only four years after the University of Southern California, the Thornton School is the oldest continually operating arts institution in Los Angeles. [2] The school is located on the USC University Park Campus, south of Downtown Los Angeles.

Morten Johannes Lauridsen III [1] (born February 27, 1943) is an American composer and teacher. A National Medal of Arts recipient (2007), [2] he was composer-in-residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale from 1994 to 2001, [3] and is professor emeritus of composition at the USC Thornton School of Music, where he taught for fifty-two years until his retirement in 2019.

The American composer Morten Lauridsen is professor of composition at the USC Thornton School of Music. [2]He wrote his setting of "O magnum mysterium" in 1994, on a commission from Marshall Rutter of the Los Angeles Master Chorale, [3] for his wife Terry Knowles.

Karen Dreyfus is a violist who currently teaches at the USC Thornton School of Music. [1] Ms. Dreyfus has distinguished herself as a recipient of many prizes, including the Naumburg Viola Competition (1982), the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition (1980), the Washington International Competition (1979), and the Hudson Valley Competition (1978).
