Marjan is a 1956 Persian language film. It was the first Persian feature film in the history of Iranian cinema to be produced and directed by a Persian woman, Shahla Riahi, a well-known actress and singer. The 110-minute 35mm, black-and-white film was produced by Arya Film.
Razor's Edge: The Legacy of Iranian Actresses is a 2016 documentary written and directed by Bahman Maghsoudlou. [1] The film examines the Iranian film industry, starting in the 1930s and through the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The film features extensive interviews many with the actresses themselves, and clips from films.
Although the Iranian film industry is flourishing, its filmmakers have operated under censorship rules, both before and after the revolution. Some Iranian films that have been internationally acclaimed are banned in Iran itself. Conversely, some Iranian filmmakers have faced hostility in other countries.
