My American Standard Freedom 90 Furnace only ignites about 50% of the time. It appears that the ignitor turns off a split second before the gas valve is opened. I replaced the ignitor hoping that a new one would get hotter and stay hotter for a split second longer, but it still only works about 50% of the time.
I'm not sure if this switch, which runs using a small microchip, would be affected by cold weather, but a few clues suggest as much. First, the furnace failed when I was out of town when our house was set to about 60 degrees. Also, it seems to be working fairly well now that we have had our furnace running for a few days.
Bleed the gas line ONLY if you are careful or get them to do it. The furnace may need several retries after the bleeding but it will take forever if it is not bled out thru the union. Needs to be soap tested after closing the union. Post some pics of the gas valve and burners and front of furnace with doors off. Dozens of different Heils out there.
I have a 21 year old "York Diamond 80" furnace, and it's been having issues igniting from a "cold" state. By that, I mean the problem manifests itself early in the morning when my thermostat kicks on after a long period of being off.
Alright, I need some more help. Gas pressure is 3.75-3.80 inH2O, and I replaced the HSI just for fun because of the following: I can tell when the furnace will fail to start, and in those instances I can manually light the furnace and it will run it's cycle without issue. I thought that perhaps the HSI was not getting hot enough, so I replaced it.
I have a lennox G24M3/4-100A-2 forced air gas furnace. Recently it has started to not light and then go into watchguard mode. After resetting, and then calling for heat, the draft inducer kicks on and a few seconds later I hear the electric spark of the ignitor clicking but the burners won't fire up.
I can't imagine it being an overheating problem. It is 62 degrees in the house and the furnace doesn't even light. I don't remember the heater ever not working last year, so I don't understand how the upper limit switch would have gotten stuck. I don't see why it would be a dirty coil, unless the furnace and AC use the same coil, but the AC works.
Signed up just to say thank you! Have an Amana Air Command 90 furnace that was experiencing this intermittent on and off igniting thing. Same exact problem. Drain tubes were completely stopped up. A quick little flush with bleach, warm water and a quick clearing with a shop vac and we were back in business.

Please help. My Bryant plus 90 furnace (model 350 MAV) goes through the ignition cycle, but does not light. It provides a fault 31 code. I have verified operation of pressure switch based on directions in my owners manual. I hace cleaned the ignitor rod, vacuumed the burner ports, and cleared all obstructions and vent restrictions.
