Naturopathy, or naturopathic medicine, is a form of alternative medicine. [1] A wide array of practices branded as "natural", "non-invasive", or promoting "self-healing" are employed by its practitioners, who are known as naturopaths.
The Office of Alternative Medicine (OAM) was established in October 1991 by the United States Congress. The OAM was expanded from an office into a center and renamed the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) in October 1998. Herbert McGolfin Shelton (October 6, 1895 – January 1, 1985) [1] was an American naturopath, alternative medicine advocate, author, pacifist, vegan, [2] and a supporter of rawism and fasting. Shelton was nominated by the American Vegetarian Party to run as its candidate for President of the United States in 1956.
Hermes was born and grew up in California, [7] and in 2002 graduated from Oak Park High School in Ventura County, California. [11] Hermes has said that she became interested in natural medicine while in high school to treat her psoriasis, [6] and that "A bad experience with a doctor as a teen pushed her to pursue a career in naturopathic medicine".
