The Andersonville National Historic Site, a former Confederate prisoner-of-war camp, is located near Andersonville, Georgia. The prison operated during the final fourteen months of the American Civil War, February 1864 – April 1865. It was overcrowded, with an inadequate water supply, inadequate food, and unsanitary conditions.
