On May 15, 2007, during the fiesta celebration of Malaybalay, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Philippines, signed Republic Act 9456 [2] [6] converting Bukidnon State College into Bukidnon State University, with endorsement from the House of Representatives and the Senate. BSU formally inaugurated its university status on June 14, 2007.
On its first year of opening of the school, it has 75 first year students and 2 teachers, Mr. Orville Bulahan, the present principal of the institution. and Mrs. Polecena Garin-Opao. The school held its first graduation exercises in 1971, with 47 senior students, 4 years after the school opens its doors.
