Samford University is a private Christian university in Homewood, Alabama, United States. [6] It was founded by Baptists in 1841 as Howard College and located until 1887 in Marion, Alabama. [7] In the fall of 2024, the university enrolled 6,101 students from 45 states, 1 U.S. territory, and 16 countries. [8]
McWhorter was established January 31, 1927 as the Howard College Department of Pharmacy as one of Samford University's ten schools, with a handful of students and a small number of faculty. Beeson Divinity was established on February 9, 1988. It is named for Ralph Waldo Beeson (1900–1990), who gave one of the largest donations (70 Million USD) in Samford history to create the first divinity school at a Baptist college in the US, and for his father, John Wesley Beeson. [3]
