Fort Owen State Park is a historic preservation area owned by the state of Montana in the United States, located on the northern outskirts of the town of Stevensville, Montana. The park is named for Fort Owen , a mission and later trading post established in 1841 and named for trader John Owen.
Stevensville is accessed from U.S. Route 93 by Montana Highway 269. Montana Highway 203 exits town on the northeast. Stevensville Municipal Airport is a town-owned public-use airport located two miles (3.2 km) northeast of town. [25] The nearest commercial airport is Missoula Montana Airport, 32 miles (51 km) north.

Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge is a 2,800-acre (1,100 ha) National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) along the Bitterroot River in southwestern Montana, U.S. [2] [3] Established in 1964 as Ravalli NWR, it was renamed in 1978 in honor of the late Senator Lee Metcalf, a native of Montana.
Located on the east side of the park, Going-to-the-Sun Road parallels the lake along its north shore. At an elevation of 4,484 feet (1,367 m), Saint Mary Lake's waters are colder and lie almost 1,500 feet (460 m) higher in elevation than Lake McDonald , the largest lake in the park, which is located on the west side of the Continental Divide .
Hell Creek Recreation Area is a public recreation area managed by the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians of Montana occupying 337 acres (136 ha) on the south side of Fort Peck Lake twenty miles (32 km) due north of the community of Jordan, Montana. [4]
