The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson is a one-hour musical special that aired on CBS on November 21, 1990. The program was a tribute to Muppet creator Jim Henson, who had died earlier in 1990 due to toxic shock syndrome caused by a streptococcus infection, and featured characters from The Muppet Show, Fraggle Rock, and Sesame Street.
According to the book Sesame Street: A Celebration - 40 Years of Life on the Street the segment was discontinued after 2003 because, "kids didn't know the new Muppets and became confused, and the frenetic pace of the segment raised concerns. It was the first of the titles in the Muppet Sing-Alongs series filmed in 1990 before production on The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson and released on May 21, 1993. This film was credited as one of Carmen Osbahr 's first projects with the Muppets, and also served as one of Richard Hunt 's final works, as he died in 1992.
