Tower of Terror's final day of operation at Disney California Adventure was January 2, 2017; the ride then closed January 3. [ 3 ] [ 4 ] In preparation for the closure, Disney began a "farewell" promotion of the ride on September 9, 2016, which featured a "Late Check Out" option to experience the drop portion of the ride in total darkness.

The game starts in an abandoned town where a ghost lives until people start to move into the town, disturbing its sleep. It attempts to scare everyone out of the town to rest in peace once again. The player can move the ghost around a building and possess objects to scare people. The more people it scares, the more paranormal powers it will gain.
