The first settlement at West Milton was made in 1807. [3] West Milton was named for John Milton, an English poet. [3] A post office called Milton was established in 1824, and the name was changed to West Milton in 1829. [4] The village was incorporated around 1834. [3]

Clear Creek Township was formed out of the north half of Milton Township on 15 October 1818, and was originally six miles square. Upon the formation of Ashland County in 1846, Clear Creek was again divided, four columns of sections on the east being included in Ashland County, the other two columns remaining in Richland.
Hale Farm and Village is a historic property of the Western Reserve Historical Society in Bath Township, Summit County, Ohio, United States. It is within the boundaries of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Hale Farm was the original homestead of Jonathan Hale, a Connecticut farmer who migrated to the Western Reserve in 1810.
According to the 2010 census, the village has a total area of 2.08 square miles (5.4 km 2), all land. [14] The area surrounding the village is mostly farmland and small plots of forest.
