Old Time Rock and Roll" is a song written by George Jackson and Thomas E. Jones III, with uncredited lyrics by Bob Seger. [1] [2] It was recorded by Seger for his tenth studio album Stranger in Town. It was also released as a single in 1979.
George Henry Jackson (March 12, 1945 – April 14, 2013) was an American blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll/rock and soul singer-songwriter. His prominence was as a prolific and skilled songwriter: he wrote or co-wrote many hit songs for other musicians, including "Down Home Blues", "One Bad Apple", "Old Time Rock and Roll" and "The Only Way Is Up".
The song was covered by American rock band Rage Against the Machine on their cover album, Renegades, where the song was released as a single. Rage Against the Machine performed the song on their DVD, Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium, accompanied by Cypress Hill.

The album's lead single was originally intended to be "Gentleman Joe's Sidewalk Café", with the original song by singer/lead guitarist Francis Rossi, "Pictures of Matchstick Men", as the B-side, but these songs were eventually swapped.
"Raised on Rock" backed by "For Ol' Times Sake" was the only single released from the album, reaching No. 41 on the Billboard chart and No. 42 on the Country chart in September 1973. [ 3 ] The album was one of the few that failed to chart in the United Kingdom, but the single " Raised on Rock / For Ol' Times Sake " did enter the British charts.
