Today, Kickapoo State Park has 221 acres (89 ha) of ponds and lakes with nearly 35 miles (56 km) of hiking trails for many types of recreational activities including camping, canoeing, hunting, mountain biking, and fishing. [1] In the winter season, ice fishing and cross-country skiing are popular pastimes for visitors to the park.

The River District was a proposed 37 acre urban development in Chicago. Tribune Media announced plans for the site in October 2017. [ 1 ] The site currently features a printing plant leased by the Chicago Tribune from Tribune Media and has been publicly discussed as a potential site for redevelopment. [ 2 ]
The park has a museum, gift shop, pavilions, RV park and campground, playground, and hiking and biking trails. [23] [26] Five miles of biking trails were cleared by the Peoria Area Mountain Biking Association in 2021. [27] The trail offers views of bluff hardwood woodlands, the Illinois River, and the Peoria skyline. [27]

The Big Bureau Creek is a 73-mile-long (117 km) [1] tributary of the Illinois River in north central Illinois. [2] It rises approximately 10 miles (16 km) north of Mendota and flows southwest into Bureau County, turning south at Princeton and then flowing east into the Illinois River floodplain.
