Blackman is an unincorporated community in Rutherford County, Tennessee, located on the west side of the city of Murfreesboro. [1] The community was founded in 1808 and was originally named Blackman's Shop. By the time of the Civil War, it had a store, doctor's offices, a school, and churches. [2] The Blackman post office was established in 1898.

Ralph Beebe Blackman (August 29, 1904 – May 24, 1990) was an American mathematician and engineer who was among the pioneers of the Information Age along with Claude E. Shannon, Hendrik Wade Bode, and John Tukey. Blackman graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1926 and started work at Bell Laboratories the same year.
