Past Times is a 1997 painting by Kerry James Marshall. It is made with acrylic paint with collage on canvas and measures 9 ft. 6 in. × 13 ft. (289.6 × 396.2 cm). [1] It depicts African-Americans enjoying leisure activities including boating, croquet, and golf. Some subjects are having a picnic.
During this period he painted a wide array of seascapes such as The Gulf Stream (1899), Moonlight – Wood's Island Light (1886), Northeaster and Cannon Rock (both 1895) and Early Morning After a Storm at Sea (1902). Many of his paintings depict the battlefront of the sea and the shore, and the waves crashing onto the rocky shore.
