In 1881 Southgate was separated from the Edmonton local board's district, forming its own local board. [1] Edmonton became an urban district in 1894 under the Local Government Act of that year. In 1937 the urban district was granted a charter of incorporation as a municipal borough .
One might therefore say that there are effectively 12 ‘Surrey constituencies’ in all - 11 seats that are wholly in Surrey, plus the Farnham and Bordon constituency where Surrey residents are in the majority, where the Surrey town of Farnham is the main town within the seat, and where Surrey constitutes the majority of the land area of the seat.

Most of the estate was built in the 1950s on the Old Dean Common for residents of heavily bombed areas of Greater London that were in Surrey, not the County of London between 1894 and 1965 and were made homeless after World War II, expanded by the Camberley Urban District, with county assistance, to be used in part as a London overspill estate.
