Michelle Chongmi Zauner (born March 29, 1989) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and author, known as the lead vocalist of the indie pop band Japanese Breakfast. Her 2021 memoir, Crying in H Mart , spent 60 weeks on The New York Times hardcover non-fiction bestseller list.
Recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles, Zauner worked with producer Blake Mills, best known for his works with Bob Dylan and Fiona Apple. [5] Zauner released the lead single "Orlando in Love" alongside the album announcement on January 7. [6] It elaborates on the larger themes of the album, namely "desire and its perils". [7]
On October 19, 2017, a music video for "Body is a Blade" was released. It was animated using old family photographs and video of Zauner visiting locations from the photos.
