In June 2004, the Coast Guard completed a program to have only an Employee Identification number (EMPLID) appear on Coast Guard Leave and Earnings Statements and other documents not requiring a Social Security number. The format for all EMPLID numbers is a seven digit number where the first digit is 1 and there are no alpha characters used.
