The Informatics Institute of Technology (IIT) is a private higher education institute in Sri Lanka which offers specialized offshore British degree programmes in IT and Business. IIT has collaborated with British universities to offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Sri Lanka since its inception in 1990.

The faculty shifted to the semester based course unit system by 2001. Name of the Department of Computer Science was changed to Department of Computer Engineering and it started offering a degree program in the same year. In 2005, the Department of Chemical Engineering was also renamed the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering.
