The show is adapted from Waller-Bridge's 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-woman play of the same name which won a Fringe First Award. [11] [12] [13] The initial idea of the character of Fleabag came from a challenge by a friend, where Waller-Bridge was given the task of creating a sketch for a 10-minute section in a stand-up storytelling night.
"Episode 1" is the first episode of the second series of Fleabag, and the seventh overall. The episode was written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and directed by Harry Bradbeer . It premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 17 May 2019 along with the rest of the series.
This episode is a parody of Don Bluth's An American Tail, only this time, it is done with fleas instead of mice. A family of fleas becomes separated when their younger child lands on Furrball. Buster, Babs and Plucky shrink themselves to flea size to help the young flea reunite with his family, who then take residence on Furrball.
The show pits two teams against each other in a competition to "flip" used items at a flea market for a later profit. Each team of two is given $500 to buy furniture at a flea market. They are then given $100 to refurbish the items before trying to resell them for a profit at a different flea market. The team that makes the most profit wins $5,000.
