There was no fair in 1917–18 due to World War I , 1942–45 due to World War II , and 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Mitchell exhibited with local arts organizations such as the San Diego Art Guild, founded in 1915, and the La Jolla Art Association, founded in 1918.
