The Forest Stewardship Program (FSP) provides assistance to non-industrial private forest owners by encouraging and enabling them for long-term forest management. The program provides landowners with information on development and multi-source planning in an effort to manage private forests for goods and services.
The New Jersey Conservation Foundation is a private non-profit organization that works to preserve land and natural resources in the state of New Jersey. Since its founding in 1960, the Foundation has protected 125,000 acres of open space, farmland, and parks.
The program was administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). In 2008 Congress enacted the 2008 Farm Bill and replaced the Conservation Security Program with the similarly named, but differently structured Conservation Stewardship Program. [1] [2]
The program helps States and regions identify important forest areas. When conservation easements are used, the land remains privately owned. Other tools include full-fee purchase, voluntary deed restrictions, covenants, and agreements. The program is based on a "willing seller and willing buyer" concept.
The state of New Jersey in the United States owns and administers over 354,000 acres (1,430 km 2) of land designated as "Wildlife Management Areas" (abbreviated as "WMA") throughout the state. These areas are managed by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife, an agency in the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. [1]
