Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) now operates the facilities and research. The line is intended to extend and incorporate the existing Yamanashi test track ( see below ). The trainsets are popularly known in Japan as linear motor car ( リニアモーターカー , rinia mōtā kā ) , though there are many technical variations.
The line, currently under construction, is scheduled to open in 2027. JR Central is also seeking to sell or license the technology to foreign rail companies. The L0 Series, a prototype vehicle based on SCMaglev technology, holds the record for fastest crewed rail vehicle with a record speed of 603 km/h (375 mph). [4]

The company was founded on 18 February 1988. [4]On July 12, 2024, it was announced that the company name would be changing from Tokai Transport Service Co., Ltd. to JR-Central Transport Service Co., Ltd. (adding a "JR" to the beginning and translating the word "Tokai" in its English name), effective October 1, 2024, to clearly identify it as a subsidiary of JR Central. [5]
The L0 Series train type is undergoing testing by the Central Japan Railway Company (JR Central) for eventual use on the Chūō Shinkansen line. It set a crewed world speed record of 603 kilometres per hour (375 mph) on 21 April 2015. [ 110 ]
16-car set Y K 8 on Tokaido Shinkansen Kodama service with "Arigatō 0 Series" sticker on final day of services, 19 September 1999. The 16-car Y K sets were operated by JR Central on the all-stations Kodama services. These sets had upgraded reserved seat cars with 2+2 seating employing 100 series style seats, but only one Green car per 16-car set.
