The Norwegian Tax Administration (Norwegian: Skatteetaten) is a government agency responsible for resident registration (National Population Register) and tax collection in Norway. The agency is subordinate to the Ministry of Finance and is based at Helsfyr in Oslo.
Most direct taxes are collected by the Norwegian Tax Administration (Skatteetaten) and most indirect taxes are collected by the Norwegian Customs and Excise Authorities (Toll- og avgiftsetaten). The Norwegian word for tax is skatt, which originates from the Old Norse word skattr. [1] An indirect tax is often referred to as an avgift.
