Quinta das Lágrimas (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈkĩtɐ ðɐʒ ˈlaɣɾimɐʃ]) is a quinta in Coimbra. It was classified [1] [2] in 1977 as an "Imóvel de Interesse Publico" (En: Building of Public Interest) by the IPPAR. It includes 12 ha (29.6 acres) of gardens and a palace that has been converted into a luxury hotel. [3]

It was created in October 2013, [1] replacing the previously existing Greater Metropolitan Area of Coimbra. Since January 2015, Região de Coimbra is also a NUTS3 subregion of Centro Region, that covers the same area as the intermunicipal community. [2] The main city and seat of the intermunicipal community is Coimbra.
It is also a tourist attraction of Coimbra's old university quarter. A choir, the Coro da Capela da Universidade de Coimbra, performs in the church. Although Coimbra University teaching and administrative staff has priority, São Miguel Chapel occasionally rents the space for Roman Catholic weddings and other events. [9]
