The Opus Spiritus Sancti, (literally meaning "Work of the Holy Spirit") is a Catholic organization originating from Germany.It consists of five institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life, all dedicated to promoting the mission of the Holy Spirit through various religious and charitable works.

Formed in dedication to the Holy Spirit to minister to the poor and to provide chaplains in hospitals, prisons, and schools, the community soon developed a missionary role: some volunteered for service in the Far East and North America. In 1765 the Holy See entrusted it with direct care of South American missions, in colonies such as French Guiana.
A Gothic, aisleless church was constructed on that site around 1300 and subsequently referred to as the Chapel of the Holy Spirit (Heiliggeistkapelle). King Rupert commissioned a new church building in 1398, which replaced the chapel and became the current Church of the Holy Spirit. The current church is the third sacral building on the site. [3]
