LASD and LAPD are close enough with percentages, but the big difference is the LASD full medical after 25 years. Also, if you work past 30 years, you don't pay into retirement anymore (Plan "B" Safety Retirement), they are fully vested, and they match up to 4% of your pay dollar for dollar on contributions to a 401k fund (pre-tax dollars!).

I'm guessing LASD has dedicated DUI guys, but you never know when one might not be available. I've done DUIs at 9 in the morning. I don't know the LASD specifically, but I would assume that you'll need to be able to demonstrate proficiency in DUI investigations to pass FTO for liability reasons, so they'll be able to say you were trained ...
LASD Hiring Update: Deputy Sheriff Trainee Academies. As of today, LASD has six academy classes running concurrently at all three academy locations. Biscailuz Center in East Los Angeles, STARS Center in Whittier and College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita: with a total of 464 Deputy Sheriffs in the making, 25% of which are female.

Just got home from the 17th annual LA County Sheriff's retired Deputies reunion in Laughlin Nevada...The host told us the previous Guinness book of world records for reunions of retired police officers was 1000 officers. We had 1040 retired LA County Deputies at this years reunion...
