A list of works by Lucian (c. AD 125 – after AD 180), who wrote in Ancient Greek. The order of the works is that of the Oxford Classical Texts edition. The Brigadier is a 2004 oil on canvas painting by the British artist Lucian Freud (1922–2011). It is a larger than life seven foot high portrait of Andrew Parker Bowles. [3] In 2015 the work sold at auction at Christie's in New York City for $34.89 million. [4]
A True Story (Ancient Greek: Ἀληθῆ διηγήματα, Alēthē diēgēmata; Latin: Vera Historia or Latin: Verae Historiae), also translated as True History, is a long novella or short novel [1] written in the second century AD by the Syrian author Lucian of Samosata. [2]
Lucian of Samosata [a] (Λουκιανὸς ὁ Σαμοσατεύς, c. 125 – after 180) was a Hellenized Syrian satirist, rhetorician and pamphleteer who is best known for his characteristic tongue-in-cheek style, with which he frequently ridiculed superstition, religious practices, and belief in the paranormal.
He studied at Chelsea College of Art from 1984 to 1987, followed by the Royal College of Art from 1987 to 1989, where he was a contemporary of Tracey Emin and Jake and Dinos Chapman. Unlike them, however, even at this stage Dawson considered himself to be almost exclusively a painter. [1] In 1989, Dawson showed his works at Flowers Gallery.
