There are more than 1,200 students enrolled in education programs at the Medical College of Wisconsin. This consists of about 817 medical students and 400 graduate students. An additional 670 physicians in residency and 180 physicians in fellowship training work with the college's affiliated hospitals throughout the state.
The medical school was proposed in 1848 and a two-year basic science course began in 1907. Charles R. Bardeen was the first dean of the medical school. The first four-year class matriculated in 1925, [2] and the entire UWSMPH moved into the state-of-the-art Health Sciences Learning Center in 2004.
