[3] Happy Jack is located at an elevation of 2,360 m (7,740 ft) and is approximately 65 km (40 mi) south-south-east of Flagstaff. The project was initially a partnership between Discovery Communications and Lowell Observatory.
Lake Mary Road is a north–south road in the U.S. state of Arizona. In 1967, the Arizona Department of Transportation added the road into the state highway system with the designation of State Route 487. However, by the late 1970s it had been returned to its original name, and no reason for its decommissioning is currently known.
State Route 487 was a state route that never materialized in the north-central part of Arizona. The Arizona Department of Transportation added it the state highway system in 1967 between Flagstaff and State Route 87 near Happy Jack. It did show on state maps during the early 1970s, but the route disappeared in the mid to late '70s.
Some 21 million acres (85,000 km 2) of public lands, almost one-eighth of the area of Arizona and New Mexico, were now to be administered by the new Forest Service. In 1908, the Coconino National Forest was established from parts of the Tonto , Black Mesa , Grand Canyon , and entire San Francisco Mountains National Forests .
