After an unsuccessful ambush, Gohan is murdered by the Androids. When Trunks finds the body, he becomes engulfed in rage and sadness, awakening his Super Saiyan transformation. After Gohan's death, Trunks assumes the mantle of Earth's sole protector against the artificial humans for the next three years until Bulma finishes her time machine.
Gohan challenges the Androids alone, but Gohan's lack of an arm and the Androids' superior stamina puts the former at a severe disadvantage, and he is eventually killed. Alerted by Gohan's ki signal disappearing, Trunks awakens and heads into the city only to find Gohan's corpse lying in the ground.
She gives Gohan, Goku, Trunks, and Vegeta a set of Saiyan armours. Tien and Piccolo refuse to wear the suits, claiming they do not want to wear the same clothes as the Saiyans. Vegeta then leaves to find and destroy Cell, while Trunks closely follows.
Trunks, Gohan, and Bulma are investigating the other time machine when Gohan notices a strange shell that has been cast off by an unknown creature. On the way back to her house, Bulma watches a news broadcast about thousands of people in nearby Gingertown who have inexplicably disappeared, as if they simply melted away in their clothes.
Gohan asks Bulma for help designing a costume for his new persona, the Great Saiyaman. He learns that Trunks and Vegeta have been training vigorously. Because he can fly with his new costume without revealing his identity, he gives the Nimbus to his little brother, Goten, whom Chi Chi was pregnant with during the Cell games.
Gohan's recovery is short-lived, because Majin Buu hits him with an energy blast of incredible power. As Gohan falls to the Earth in a forest, he is very badly injured. Goten and Trunks arrive at the outskirts of the scene and notice the "statues" of Piccolo and Krillin. Trunks accidentally breaks the Piccolo statue.
As he enters Boo's body, Vegerott suddenly defuses. Goku and Vegeta find and free Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo. As they also free the obese Boo, the current Boo undergoes a new transformation that turns him into a child-like Pure Majin Boo. The original Boo proceeds to destroy the Earth, killing Gohan, Goten, Trunks and Piccolo.
Piccolo, Gohan, Goten, and Trunks spread out into the city, hoping to convince people to raise their arms. Hercule has finally had enough, and he speaks to the people of Earth. When they hear the familiar voice of the World Champion, all of the people of Earth raise their arms and offer their energy.
