Dec 6, 2011. #3. No ground rods required for a mobile home. At the service, yes, but not at the actual trailer. Section 550.10 outlines the requirements for mobile home feeders and connection. No where does it require any ground rod, or grounding electrode systems. Section 550.16 outlines the grounding requirements for mobile homes.

It is greater with aluminum than with copper and we see evidence of this during the torquing of cable lug and bus connections.
The Mobile Home Feeder cable is almost identical to standard URD Aluminum except for a couple things. It has a neutral AND a ground wire where URD usually only has the neutral for use as a feed from the utility transformer to the service disconnect.

Bare conductors are not allowed in underground installations, even for the EGC. If the feeder is installed above ground, there may be concern for a higher probability of mechanical damage to the feeder going into a mobile home (versus other kinds of buildings). Re: Aluminum wire proper termination practice is the problem with aluminum wire. and if these practices were known back in the seventies, when many homes were wired with aluminum branch circuit conductors, there would be alot less problems with it. but then, the labor required to properly terminate it might have been weighed by the contractor and copper might have been cheaper? load conditions ...
