Posted November 11, 2022. I currently have multiple small tanks on some sturdy file cabinets, but I wouldn’t recommend it for larger tanks. If you can’t feel safe jumping on a stand and doing a jig on it, I wouldn’t recommend it for anything 55 gallon or up (roughly 625 pounds with substrate, hardscape, and water).

Maacc said: Structurally I love the design the entire bottom area is open. The stand is solid as a rock. I used 1/2" expanded pvc board under both my tank and my sump which both sit on 3/4" Styrofoam insulation. My goal and I think I succeeded to make a stand that will never rot either with spills or humidity.
See my build for pictures of my stand built from 8020 t-slot. Inside Sales at 8020 in Indiana directed me to a local distributor whom they knew was experienced with aquarium stands and was responsive to customers (primeresourcenow.com). 8020 and Prime Resource tweaked my design to support the weight.
They typically even have the capability of making a marble, stone, etc. top for you in the store. Well made kitchen cabinets can also serve as aquarium stands. Local metal workers can fabricate pretty much anything you want and make it as strong as you want. Older, well made dressers can often hold most moderate sized fish tanks.
Fuchsia is 3.5" by 1.125". Green is 2.75" by 1.5". Brown is a regular 2x4 (3.5" by 1.5") White is flat board--3/4" thick on the shelves, and 1/4" thick on the sides of the cabinet. One reason we planed 2x4s instead of buying nicer wood without the curved edges is that we already had a ton of 2x4s lying around.
Galabar. The cheapest, good quality stands are probably the Imagitarium metal stands. However, they don't have doors. Most cheap stands are going to be made of particle board. I'm not sure there is a "good" version of a cheap stand, they all seem similar (please correct me if I'm wrong about that).
108. Posted August 27, 2023 (edited) Hello, I’m trying to figure out how much weight a specific stand can exactly hold (Likeem 55gal aquarium stand off of Amazon). It states the stand can reliably hold up to 660 pounds, and when I did the calculations for a 55 gallon tank (1 gallon is 8.34 pounds) it comes out to 458.7 pounds with 201.3 ...
