Broomfield is a village and residential suburb in the City of Chelmsford district, immediately north of the city itself. It is the site of a major Accident & Emergency hospital. There are two public houses as well as primary and secondary schools [ 2 ] and sports clubs.
In April 2017, the Care Quality Commission rated Mid Essex Hospital as "Good" overall [10] The trust spent £18 million on agency staff in 2014/5. [ 11 ] In February 2016 it was expecting a deficit of £38.4 million for the year 2015/6, [ 12 ] and in February 2018 it expected a deficit of £55 million for the year.
The trust was established on 1 April 2020 following the merger of three existing NHS trusts: Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Mid Essex Hospital Services NHS Trust and Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. [3] An initial merger between the 3 trusts was first agreed in January 2018. [4]

The first purpose-built asylum in the United Kingdom was Bethel Hospital, Bethel Street in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Founded and built by Mary Chapman (1647–1724), who was the wife of Reverend Samuel Chapman and built wholly at her own expense in 1713. The plan for the building was along an "H" block architectural design style. [9] [10]
