Wood was born Natalie Zacharenko [note 1] in San Francisco, California on July 20, 1938, to Maria Zoudilova (sometimes transliterated Zoodiloff; [9] 1908–1998) [note 2] and second husband Nicholas Zacharenko (1912–1980).
