The Williamston Felpausch location was branded as the first mid-Michigan D&W store after Spartan purchased the 20-store Felpausch chain in 2007. Since the initial buyout, two additional D&W locations have been re-branded to the Family Fare banner, the Grandville location in 2010 and the Rockford location in 2012.
The location that was later to become Williamston started as the crossroad of the Grand River and Saginaw Indian Trails. It was first occupied by a small band of the Saginaw tribe of the Chippewa People which by the mid-19th century used the area as a 'summer village' (it was not used by them year-round, but they 'wintered' in the area that is now Meridian Township).

In December 1947, after 90 years, the Brooklyn plant was closed. Manufacturing facilities were then moved to Englewood, New Jersey, Hastings, Michigan, Toledo, Ohio, Canton, Ohio and Salem, Ohio. Bliss purchased Consolidated Press Company of Hastings, Michigan. In 1906, E. W. Bliss Company created the Bliss Automobile.
Slowly over the next 40 years, Eloise's population decreased. The farm operations ceased in 1958 and some of the large psychiatric buildings were vacated in 1973. The psychiatric division started closing in 1977, and the last patients were transferred out in 1982 when the State of Michigan took over. The general hospital closed in 1986.
