Cyclo (Vietnamese: Xích Lô [sɨt̚˦˥ lo˧˧]) is a 1995 film by Tran Anh Hung.It stars Lê Văn Lộc, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Trần Nữ Yên Khê.The film is about the hard lives of the labor force in early 1990s Ho Chi Minh City, and how people come under the influence of crime.
It is also known by a variety of other names such as bike taxi, velotaxi, pedicab, bikecab, cyclo, beca, becak, trisikad, sikad, tricycle taxi, trishaw, or hatchback bike. While the rickshaw is pulled by a person on foot, the cycle rickshaw is human-powered by pedaling.
The success of Papaya helped Hung gain funding for the next film, Cyclo. The film tells stories of poor people living in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), and was filmed on location there. Cyclo won the Golden Lion at 52nd Venice International Film Festival, and at the age of 33, Hung was one of the youngest filmmakers to be thus honored there.
