Helen Forrest (born Helen Fogel, April 12, 1917 – July 11, 1999) was an American singer of traditional pop and swing music.She served as the "girl singer" for three of the most popular big bands of the Swing Era (Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, and Harry James), thereby earning a reputation as "the voice of the name bands."
The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001. In February 2006, the Weavers received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Represented by members Ronnie Gilbert and Fred Hellerman, they struck a chord with the crowd as their struggles with political witch hunts during the 1950s were recounted.

An all-female band is a band which has consisted entirely of female musicians for at least three-quarters of its active career. This article only lists all-female bands who perform original material that is either authored by themselves or authored by another musician for that band's use. Therefore vocal groups (girl groups) are not included.
The original members of the band had met in Mississippi in 1938 at the Piney Woods Country Life School, a school for poor and African American children.
