Garneau was born in Edmonton, Alberta and having a mother who was an artist, always made art. [2] In high school he was inspired by an article on Joe Fafard to be an artist. [3] He moved to Calgary at the age of 17 but came back to Edmonton for a job. While he was there, he began to make sculptures of local people.
