The Church Mission Society started their activities in thrissur in the year 1836. Subsequently they started a lower primary school at mission quarters in East Fort Thrissur on 1845 by Reverend father Henry Harley and he was the missioner of CMS. The current school started in 1883.
CMS College Kottayam is known for producing a wide range of alumni and is a landmark in the history of both Kottayam and Kerala. Founded by the Church Missionary Society of England, in 1817 when no institution existed in what was then the princely state of Travancore to teach English.

Among those who came forward, Rhenius and Schnarre were selected and given orientation on mission skills for 18 months in England. In 1813, the British parliament passed a new Act.
