The museum operates four diesel locomotives and has a full assortment of railcars.Actual train rides are done every first and third Saturday of each month from April to September, typically at 9:15 am, 11:15 am, 1:15 pm and 3:15 pm. [2] Special annual events also occur, such as the Halloween Train, the Easter Express, and the Polar Express around Christmastime.
Museum activities consist of operation of historic 4 ft 8 + 1 ⁄ 2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge and 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge railroad equipment, including train rides, handcar rides, lectures, an annual railroad history symposium, changing exhibits, and a variety of special events. The Museum also has an ongoing research and restoration program.

An independent entity called the Oklahoma City Junction Railway was incorporated in Oklahoma on June 10, 1909. [3] [6] Its primary purpose was to operate a terminal (principally consisting of stock pens) in the stockyards district of OKC, but the project included 1.724 miles of mainline and 3.779 miles of yardtracks and sidings, and was built between April and October of 1910.
