David Kent Hidalgo (born October 6, 1954, in Los Angeles) [1] is an American singer-songwriter, best known for his work with the band Los Lobos. Hidalgo frequently plays musical instruments such as accordion , violin, 6-string banjo , cello , requinto jarocho , percussion, drums and guitar as a session musician on other artists' releases.
Vocalist and guitarist David Hidalgo and drummer Louie Pérez met at Garfield High School in East Los Angeles, California, and bonded over their mutual affinity for musical acts such as Fairport Convention, Randy Newman and Ry Cooder. [9] [10] Pérez recalls, "We're looking at each other, 'You like this stuff? I thought I was the only weird one.'
Initially Los Villains was formed by Pérez, who is a current member of Manic Hispanic, and the son of Los Lobos guitarist and percussionist Louie Pérez. Los Lobos singer David Hidalgo lent his vocals to the film, while Phillips lip-synced the words. A guitar instructor was also on set to coach him on strumming the guitar.
The album was recorded live to 16-track and represented the band's live repertoire at the time, which included their original song, "Flor de Huevo", an instrumental written by guitarist David Hidalgo. [4] It was reissued on CD in 2000 by Hollywood Records with one bonus track.
